Re: Controversial Changes at University of Pennsylvania Archaeology Museum
Unfortunately, this seems to be a world-wide trend.
The recently-departed and, I gather, not greatly-lamented, director of the Western Australian Museum couldnt see the point of maintaining curatorial staff,
who did research, she was only interested in 'designed' displays and visitor numbers.  With the result that the Anthropology-Archaeology section now
has, I believe, a staff of about two, whereas when I moved to WA from London it had a staff of six or seven.
I remember being told by an American colleague years ago, that the Smithsonian (no less) went through a similar silliness, but managed to get the CEO
fired.  I know the Natural History in London had similar problems about 10 years ago.
What is it with corporate entities that they seem to have no respect for research?
