Search engines and rating companies

Google.com
http://www.google.com
It remains the best search tools for education, research and general information. It is
amazing the way in
which google.com finds especially  new webpages .

Yahoo
http://dir.yahoo.com/social_science/anthropology_and_archaeology/
Yahoo has a thematical website on anthropology and archaeology

Alexa.com at
http://www. alexa.com
Unclear criteria for rating. No response to comments and questions.  Our suggestions is
submit
regularly updated information and links at
http://www.alexa.
com/site/devcorner/selfservice.
Experience: In 2007 we did not find any problems with Alexa. However, last month when
iia.anthropology.org gradually
increased the visitors, Alexa gave opposite information even when there were 9 new
pages seen per week. Also,
yahoo.com shows more than 500 links of iianthropology.org while Alexa.com gives 22.

Intute
http://www.intute.ac.uk/about.html
According to the above cited website: "Intute is a free online service providing access to
the very
best web resources for education and research. All material is evaluated and selected by a
network
of subject specialists to create the Intute database."
It is missing in the information the criteria of selection and the very important fact that the
specialists are paid. For the time being, we cannot see a considerable development of
Intute in the field of archaeology and especially Prehistory.
