anthropology in Salt Lake City

In  the category "Youtube.com and enculturation" our selection is "She's witch!" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrzMhU_4m-g). As
the movies shows, the witches usually escape unmasking being invisible danger for the everydayness of the honest people.

Like the last year,  the art-show of Utah artists organized by the Zions bank was
impressive and full with good art.

Every month the Gallery of Michael Melik opened its door for new art works. For the
first time this year my brother Daniel was invited to participate in the art-show of Eastern
European artists in Utah. His art was among the selected for the best of Year 2008 in
December!

The Bulgarian society in Utah did not miss even one month to gather together. It was
possible thanks to the hosts and sponsors Maria and Jordan and other co-organizers (the
family of Linda Nikolova) and  other sponsors (Elena, Nikolai, and Evgeni). For the first
time we participated at the
Youth Parade for the Pioneer Day and in the demonstration of
the national kitchen during the Living traditions.

The folkgroup of Margaret Strickland had a series of concerts in Salt Lake thanks to
which Bulgarian culture was felt closer by hundreds of visitors of the alive concerts and
thousands of street and TV watchers during the Young Pioneer Manifestation.

Karlovo, Bulgaria

Lolita Nikolova was among the nominated for the Karlovo Prize in 2008.

Her father, Peter Nikolov, celebrated his 80th birth Anniversary with an artshow in
Karlovo in May 2008. He was also nominated for the Karlovo Prize.

In the day of the leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival both were mentioned during
the night Parade in Karlovo.

Lolita Nikolova was regularly a guest of Radio Karlovo hosted by Anna Papukchieva
continuing the alive over-ocean talking bridge initiated a few years ago. She also
sponsored partially the Christmas party of the children - subscribers for the City Library of
Karlovo.

For the 171st birth Anniversary of Vassil Levski, a special poster exhibit was organized
in City Library of Karlovo "Bulgarians in the world".

book (September 2008)

For the first time visiting Sibiu (Romania), Lolita Nikolova participated in a Conference
organized by Sibiu University and sponsored by Joan Marler (May 2008).

As in the previous years, field trips in Montenegro, Greece, Croatia, Serbia and Italy
helped Lolita Nikolova to several families to find more information about their ancestors.
