So sad: Marek is gone (Marek Zvelebil, 1952- 7 July 2011) Examiner.com

Unbelievable! We are living in world of information when everything looks just next to us and
we can learn about everything in a minute. It looks like only! Since it is the easiest close friend,
relative or colleague to pass away and you to learn even more than two months later.
Unbelievable! Marek Zvelebil is gone! He was so young and full with energy to rediscovery the
world with the new eyes of a global humanist. For a real scientist like him 59 is age considered
even as baby’s age in the scholarly cradle. It is not easy to write today anthropology and to
research prehistory. Only the young think it is easy and fill the scholarly bin with tones of gray
literature, fraud literature, funny literature…. Today scholarly writings, or the so-called
academic writings, are part of career, not of destiny – like Marek’s writings, for example.
Unbelievable! Marek is just gone. No more Marek! We need to accept it in way we accept that
the life is short, and everybody is gone early or late.
O, Marek! You were such a great personality. Unique personality! I was so happy to have you
as a close colleague. One of the happiest news in my life as a scholar was when was told that
saw you buying my book in Thessaloniki at EAA Meeting in 2002. I have almost all you
publications in my library, or at least I read almost all. Some of them you gave me personally.
Such a precious gift! But the best I remember is how we liked singing together, parting in
Berkeley.
We need you so much just now when are trying to rethink archaeology and make it a real
humanistic science….
It is still to learn how it happened...
We will miss you badly, really badly in our short life!
God bless you, Marek!
